Must Try Harder is a memoir, written under the pen-name Daniel Ken. It reflects the author’s present recollections of experiences over time. Names and characteristics have been changed, some events have been compressed, and some dialogue has been recreated.
The author spent two decades working as a classroom teacher in various mainstream secondary schools and the language and behavior of some students (and, indeed, some staff) can range from the merely fruity to absolutely shocking.
If you’re a politician or education guru, or profess to be an ‘expert’ on all things educational, you should steer clear, because this will story not fit your pedagogical theory.
Importantly, if you are of a sensitive disposition, if you are under-eighteen, or if you think the education system is there to educate young people and prepare them for life, you are strongly advised not to read any further.
